Advanced computing center
- Due to the development of software with high volume computing, The Institute of Petroleum Engineering has established a Supercomputing Center, which is one of the best and most powerful computing centers of Iran. This supercomputing center is based on the Blade Server type and Linux system. By installing the C++ and FORTRAN compilers, students can program the required task(s) using C++ and FORTRAN. Also by installing compilers and soft wares that matches with Parallel Processing, students can use this advanced computer center. The main facilities offered by the Advanced Computing Center of IPE include a cluster server with 16 computing nodes and two servers for the administrative and internal affairs within the IPE. This cluster server is the computing heart of the center, registered in UT's DNS (http://cluster.ut.ac.ir). It can be available by verifying security parameters through the internal network (External access is disabled for security reasons). This cluster consists of 16 computational nodes, whereby communication between these nodes has been established with GIGABYTE link and 4 HP switches (With the SAN ability). The uplink speed of this system has doubled this year, and it can be increased by 4 times. Each node has two processors, the Xeon 3000 series, and operational frequency at 3.2 GHz, and 3 GB of memory. On each node, there are two high-speed SCSI hard drives, where capacity of each of them is 18 GB. The cluster operating system is Linux Rock Cluster and is based on CentOS 5.2, X64 & 32. It can be converted to any other operating system at any rate (Including windows & other Linux broadcast).
